Published on 19/04/2023

A festive, sporty and trendy seaside resort, Soorts-Hossegor always seems to be on the wave. The town that is nicknamed the "little California of the Landes" is renowned for its beaches, its surf spots, its Basque-Landesque architecture, its trendy shops and above all its gentle way of life. What to do during a weekend in Hossegor, follow the guide!

Stroll through the streets of the city centre

Just 20km from the campsite Lou Pignada, Hossegor is a charming seaside resort in the Landes region of France. Start your visit by strolling through the city centre. The Basque-Landes villas typical of Hossegor's 1930s architecture, the Sporting-Casino and the Place des Landais are some of the places not to be missed in Hossegor.

On the Place Pasteur, don't miss taking a selfie in front of the mural "Wonderlandes" by artist Steven Burke, or in front of the "Grande Vague" of Hossegor created in trompe-l'oeil by Dominique Antony at the edge of the beach.

The town centre of Hossegor will also delight shopping enthusiasts, with more than a hundred shops. Go to Rue du Touring Club and Rue Paul Lahary. You'll find a host of surfwear shops, designer showrooms, fashion and jewellery makers, and much more.

And if all this has made you hungry, stop for an ice cream at Chez Romane or Chez Tante Jeanne, with an incredible choice of flavours. Finally, if you've never been to a game of Cesta Punta, head to the Jaï Alaï in Hossegor, nicknamed "the cathedral of Basque pelota". It's always so impressive!

The Place des Landais, the place to be

To feel the pulse of the town, you must go to the Place des Landais, the beating heart of Hossegor. Facing the beach, it's the liveliest place in the resort, with numerous shops, bars, pubs and restaurants, all sprinkled with typical 1930s architecture. It is also the meeting place for night owls who want to party in Hossegor.

The spot of La Gravière

Famous for its waves, Hossegor is one of the most famous surfing destinations in the world. A temple of surfing on the Landes coast, the La Gravière spot regularly hosts internationally renowned competitions that attract the world's greatest champions. For experienced surfers, it is an opportunity to practice their favourite sport, and for the others, to take a surfing lesson. For swimming, the Central beach is another popular spot for visitors to Hossegor.

The Central beach

Located in the heart of the resort, at the Place des Landais, Hossegor's Central Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the Landes resort. Easy to access, this pretty ocean beach is very family-oriented, supervised in summer and lively whatever the season, with its pedestrian promenade on the seafront, its many bars, ice cream parlours and restaurants.

The lake of Hossegor

It is impossible to spend a weekend in Hossegor without making a diversion to its famous marine lake. Connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the Hossegor canal, Hossegor lake fills with water according to the tides. Protected by a pine forest, the salt lake of Hossegor is home to several beaches, offering an alternative to the Atlantic rollers. Easy to access, the Chênes-Lièges beach is the favourite of families. Sportsmen will also find their happiness there in paddle, canoe-kayak or Hawaiian canoe.

And for those who prefer to stay on dry land, they can taste the famous Hossegor oysters in the huts on the edge of the lake. As for hiking enthusiasts, they can walk around the lake of Hossegor after a beautiful seven-kilometre walk.
