Rainy holidays, happy holidays: what to do when it rains in the Landes?

Published on 14/03/2023

Even when it's raining, there's never a dull moment on holiday in the Landes. Here are some ideas for activities and outings to keep you busy, smiling and dry!

Do an escape game

The escape game (or escape room) is the ideal indoor activity when it rains. For those who live in a cave, it is an escape game played in teams. You have to find clues and solve puzzles to get out of a room before the time runs out. In Saint-Michel-Escalus, dive into the world of pirates in an immersive escape game accessible to all. If you are claustrophobic and the idea of being locked up doesn't really appeal to you, opt for more traditional indoor activities such as bowling and the laser game in Capbreton.

Playing board games

When it rains, board games and card games often save the day. When packing your suitcase, make sure you take some fun and friendly board games with you. Uno is the perfect game to liven up a rainy afternoon. And don't forget Scrabble, a timeless and intergenerational game. Don't forget to bring a 54-card deck. The possibilities are almost endless: battle, kem's, poker, bridge, rummy, success, president, etc.

Relax at the spa

To forget the rain, there is nothing better than a day at the spa to take care of yourself and concentrate on the present moment. The Landes is a popular destination for spas and wellness centres. At the Lou Pignada campsite, we have thought of your pleasure by offering you a wellness area with hammam, sauna, whirlpool baths, modelling, facials and body treatments. Try the candle massage, a relaxing and stimulating treatment for the senses!

Visit a museum

If it rains, museums are a perfect plan B for holidaymakers. The Landes region is full of museums for all tastes and ages. The most curious can visit the Hydraviation Museum in Biscarrosse, the Cité de l'Océan and the Aquarium in Biarritz. Others will enjoy discovering the history of the Landes and the life of the Landais in the pavilion of the Ecomuseum of Marquèze. Rain + Museum = a full day!

Swimming...in the rain

Bathing in the rain, what a funny idea! Not so far-fetched when you think about it. The difference in temperature between the air and the water is smaller, so the water seems much warmer. You also avoid sunburn ;) Beware, in case of storm, you must get out of the water! Alternatively, an indoor water park offers a good alternative to the beach. There are wave pools, whirlpools, a wild river, rapids and whirlpools, slides and paddling pools for the kids. The ultimate? A campsite with a water park and a heated indoor pool! Test a (Landes) cooking recipe

It's raining like crazy and nothing motivates you to go outside? Take the opportunity to try out a typical Landes recipe. If you are looking for an easy dessert to prepare in your mobile home, try making a Landes pastis. The preparation and tasting of this delicious cake should allow the whole family (and especially the children) to wait until the sun returns!
