The beach at Messanges

Published on 01/09/2023

It's the picture-postcard beach of the Landes region, with its dunes, pine forest and beautiful waves. Head for the beach at Messanges, on the south coast of the Landes. An ideal beach for swimming, sunbathing, learning to surf or just lazing around.

In Messanges, happiness is on the beach!

If you want to get away from the crowds, head for the beach at Messanges, but be quiet!

Bordered by the Landes forest, in a wild landscape of dunes, and with no sign of urbanisation, Messanges beach has preserved its authenticity. Fancy taking a dip or surfing the waves? Or simply put your towel down in peace and quiet? There's something for everyone.

Located on the south coast of the Landes, halfway between Moliets and Vieux-Boucau, Messanges beach is 5 km long and is divided into two parts:

- The Plage Nord (or Plage Centrale) is the resort's best-known and most easily accessible beach. It is located 2 km from the centre of Messanges along the Avenue de la Plage. Free parking, a snack bar and the famous Waiteuteu coastal lifesaving club are located on the edge of the beach.

- La Plage Sud is located 4 km from Messanges town centre. This is the beach that borders Le Vieux Port campsite. Here surfers and bodyboarders are the kings of the waves. It can be reached by following the D652, then the "Route de la Plage Sud" in the direction of Vieux-Boucau. You then have to walk a few hundred metres to reach the beach.

Families reassured by supervised swimming

Messanges beach is supervised in summer and is ideal for families. The bathing areas are marked by two red and yellow flags. Two first-aid posts are open on the beach. Lifeguards are on hand to remind you of the rules to follow on the beach: never leave children unsupervised, avoid swimming in unsupervised areas, respect any swimming bans and don't overestimate your physical fitness.

> The beach at Messanges (la Centrale and la Sud) is supervised from mid-June to mid-September.

Messanges beach for surfing

Away from the overcrowded spots of Seignosse, Hossegor and Capbreton, Messanges beach is an ideal spot to learn to surf, improve your technique or take part in a surf camp in the Landes. Messanges beach is renowned for its combination of long and shallow waves, and offers perfect conditions all year round. Our partner Mana Surf School, based on the southern beach of Messanges, will help you discover this sport.
